Finanbest is a fintech company that offers its clients a fully automated way to invest in investment fund portfolios and, bold,
pension plans. All this through a 100% digital process (including electronic signature).
In recent years fintech companies have changed the basis of competition in financial services and major analysts predict that they have come to
completely change the global financial landscape.
Finanbest:
Improved loading times of the application
What challenge was the company facing?
Finanbest had started its project on a “classic” hosting platform that was beginning to show potential performance improvements, as at times it offered response times below its quality standards and those expected by a very demanding digital client.
The existing architecture, which was based more on VPS servers than on high-performance systems, was analysed with a mix of production and development environments that offered options for evolution and improvement.
Implemented solution
apser proposed a platform with a clear division between development and production environments. In addition, each platform would consist of separate servers (frontend+backend) to decouple the presentation and business layers.
In the development environment, EC2 instances of the T family were used that are switched off outside working hours, while in the production environment, M-type instances with higher resources were deployed.
Additionally, the client domains were migrated to Amazon Route53 to integrate it with Amazon Cloudfront, in order to improve the loading times of the application, and with Amazon Web Application Firewall (WAF,) to protect the web frontend.
Finally, the backup and compliance policies were revised, given that it operates in an environment regulated by financial institutions, and a new policy forbackup and restoration of the platform against contingencies was defined.
Results
The main objective of the project was to reduce loading times, and to order service through automated measurements of performance, usages and capacities. This was achieved immediately thanks to the higher performance of the servers and the implementation of CloudFront.
As Finanbest’s client base has grown, it has been possible to scale the solution according to their needs with minimal impact on their operations.
The implementation of WAF has also allowed the blocking of a large amount of illegitimate traffic that may have been slowing down server response in the past.
Next steps
Separation of the MongoDB database, which is now on the backend EC2 servers, to migrate it to a DocumentDB service is currently under consideration.
In addition, an analysis of the use of the current platform has been carried out, in which overprovisioned resources have been identified that can be reduced to optimize costs.
